PITCHERS AND THE MVP AWARD
I am firm on this. I admit that there are situations that make it closer than what I am about to say, but I still think when you have your own award…well, you have your own award. I believe that the best MLB teams each year thrive on team pitching, ride an ace to bounce back from a loss, AND ride that pitcher full throttle when rotations are shortened in the postseason. That being said, I will say this. Unless a guy has 25-30 wins in a season, I don’t believe a pitcher who goes out once every five games deserves the MVP. We are talking about it again this year with Mr. Kershaw. Many of you know I am his biggest fan. So, give him the Cy Young. But save the MVP for someone who is not golfing in between starts (not saying you DO, Clayton…just saying you CAN). Save it for someone involved in every play, every game. Save it for someone who doesn’t HAVE a Cy Young option. Give it to a position player. I don’t even want DH’s to ever get it, but they do suit up every day at least, if only for half of the game. Know that the pitcher MIGHT be the MVP in some respects, but that the award was for the others. That is all for today. The Fillerbuster rests.
