Catch of the Day.
One hook and one hook only…
Sure, postseason baseball, college football, and professional football are primarily on my mind today. That seemed too easy. Plus, I wrote a lot yesterday. Additionally, I have work stuff going on that limits my time severely. Plus, it’s not like this guy will be in the headlines for anything good anytime soon. Today is just a shout out to one of the biggest wastes of basketball oxygen outside of perhaps Michael Olowokandi. Darko Milicic today officially said goodbye to his NBA career. He hasn’t played in almost two years, so we thank him for not taking the hint and telling US goodbye. Like his style. His 6 points and 4 rebounds per game career stats will never be forgotten. His 0 points, .1 rebounds per game and -30 PER in a shortened last season will go down as one of the best. Before you ask, he has a ring. The Pistons drafted him and then won the NBA title, largely due to his 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds contribution in his first season. The Pistons couldn’t have gotten LeBron obviously, but have tried not to lose too much sleep in thinking how many MORE rings they could have with the guys AFTER their Darko selection. Cue Melo, Wade, and Bosh. Ok. Maybe Melo would have taken too many shots away from Rip and Chauncey. Maybe that was a good thing. But, hell, I would have taken Chris Kaman (#6) and had a better chance than with Darko. Hindsight is 20/20 they say. Well, just like the Thompson Twins tricking us with what we thought were good songs, the joke was on us with Darko also. He is only 29, so he has plenty of time for his next career dream, which honestly and truthfully he has told us is kickboxing. Maybe Van Damme will pick him up for his next tragic movie. Rock on, Darko. You are a trivia question that will never die. That is all for today.
