Catch of the Day.
HOOK:
“Gone.”
The Nats fired Matt Williams this week in a move that might be justified on some levels, but not with me. Sure, they under-performed and didn’t make the playoffs. Sure, they were World Series favorites going into the season. Sure, their second half was perplexing. Sure, someone has to pay the price. But, they still had a winning record overall so the season wasn’t a total train wreck, and Matt Williams seemed to have the support of players. I would have let him roll through one more year.
The Dolphins fired Joe Philbin, and this was deserved…but LAST year. He didn’t have a winning record before this season, so what did they expect from this year? Were they blindsided by a 1-3 start? They basically are tossing in their hand for this year by having a new head coach at this stage of the season. Perplexing, and should have cut ties with a whole offseason to work through.
LINE:
“One.”
Tonight the MLB Wildcard Game occurs and some of you know my feelings on this. This year is not as bad as last year record wise when one team is multiple games ahead of another, and I admit that a one game playoff is “fun.” But, we had a whole 162 game season to figure this out, so although I will watch and try and enjoy, I don’t agree with the concept overall. Let whoever won the 162 game race face a division winner in a SERIES.
SINKER:
“Bat.”
The number of penalties that “can’t be reviewed” is staggering it seems. I get the fact that you have to draw the line somewhere, but when a little known “illegal bat” call can’t be officially reviewed and cost a struggling Lions team a whole GAME, something needs to change. That game was painful enough to watch overall. Having it end on a bad call adds insult to injury.
That’s all for today. Peace.
