Catch of the Day
PURENESS OR EXCITEMENT?
Every year, I love the MLB playoffs. Pulling starters in as relievers, long series testing the depth of teams, managerial strategies, and the finality of everything. I have commented on it here and there, and now I am writing a longer hook about it. I hate the present setup of the baseball playoffs. Hate it. I am in sales, and it is like plugging in feature talk when we should be talking about needs and benefits. Well, I need the CHANCE of an underdog making it through, but I in the end I want the best teams for the most part. That is why they played the entire 162 game season. That is why they spend the season patching up their bench, end of their rotation, and bullpen. The wildcard concept is not wrong. The multiple number of wildcards is wrong. Now, things are terrible. We have two wildcards who might be separated by five freaking games who play each other in a one game playoff. Then, the reward from winning THAT joke is that you get a 5 game, shortened series against a better team most likely. Short series-you have a chance. Yes, it is great for the fans. Ugghhh. I want it good for the teams…especially the good ones. The fact that we might wake up tomorrow and have both Mike Trout and Bryce Harper out of the playoffs is ridiculous. The fact that my joy in having the historically pained Royals and Orioles in the ALCS is dulled by the fact that the A’s, Angels, and Tigers are GONE. The Cardinals? Well, they will be there regardless it seems to WHAT playoff module is set up. The Giants benefit with shorter series. I am willing to lose a decent team in a good division and play 7 game series than this present setup. Change it or fix it. That is all for today.
