Catch of the Day.

HOLE DUG?  CHECK.

Yup.  There was a lot of fun football games yesterday.  I can talk about how we know for sure that strong interior running can break down the Seahawks.  I can talk about either the rise of the Browns or the sinking ship in Pittsburgh that is somehow still 3-3.  I can talk about how the New York Giants haven’t WON OR LOST a game by SINGLE digits this year and are about as bipolar as you can be.  I can talk about how the late Broncos interception lost Vegas millions and Mr. Mayweather, in case his life isn’t good enough already, won $600k on that play.  I could talk about Mr. Royal’s less than .500 NFL picks.  But I won’t.  Let’s talk baseball for a few moments.  The O’s and Royals are the darlings that two tormented fan bases are hoping advance to the World Series.  The O’s, at HOME in their losses, are down 2-0 to a team that is starting to look like a team of destiny.  Can they dig themselves out?  Well, your first inclination is to look at history to see what has been done.  Let’s look at the three teams who HAVE dug themselves out of this particular hole and see if we might learn something.  The Royals did it in 1985.  The Mets did it in 1986.  The Yankees did it in 1996.  These are teams who went down 2-0 AT HOME.  Here is why I don’t think the O’s have a shot.  All three of those teams teed up pitchers in Game 3 and Game 4 that were high quality, proven starters who you could bank on pitching you out of a jam.  Let’s look.  Royals.  Some dude named Saberhagen, and then John Tudor in Game 4.  Strong arms to bring to the house.  1986?  Oh, just Bob Ojeda and Ron Darling for the Mets.  Come on.  1996, and do I even have to talk about stars and Yankees?  David Cone and Kenny Rogers.  Rogers pitched horrible but that is neither here nor there.  ANYWAY, without making this a book, I am simply saying that Wei-Yin Chen and whoever the O’s roll out in Game 4 do NOT support any logic of them coming back in this series.  I can still see this thing going 6, but that is about as crazy as I will go.  That is all for today.  Peace.
