Catch of the Day.

HOOK:

We are getting to conference play in college basketball, and my viewing has only slightly altered my preseason predictions.  Actually, as far as the Final Four, I am more clear on Duke‘s quality and am sad that the cat is out of the bag and Gonzaga, preseason in the teens preseason but on my Final Four list, is now on everyone’s radar.  It is kind of like when your favorite niche band gets a top 10 hit.  Anyway, I digress.  I wasn’t initially sold on Kentucky, but watched three games and maybe they are that freaking good.  And tall.  And long.  And deep.  And athletic.  I still think that either UNC or Louisville beats them coming up in regular season, but I might be sold on the overall product.  Finally, I still think Wisconsin has too much shooting and experience to not make it through.  They proved last year again Arizona they can hang with more athletic teams.  Speaking of Arizona, there is still something missing in my opinion even with their record.  I don’t  like how they are 188th in rebounds and 187th in blocked shots even with decent height.  Villanova is too short, Louisville is oddly missing shooters, and Kansas still has some growing to do (not height).  The teams that ALSO have Final Four potential still for me?  I am impressed by Texas, my UVA Cavaliers, Iowa State, and Wichita State.  I think Utah, Colorado State, and St. John’s are great candidates to really jack up someone’s bracket.

SINKER:

San Francisco 49ers.  They lose to Oakland this weekend (kicking me also out of a loser’s pool), they have skill but can’t seem to create quality results, they have a coach who might bolt for college, and they now might be eliminated from the playoffs mathematically as soon as next week.  They are a collection of wasted talent this year.
