Catch of the Day.

HOOK:

I Can’t Breathe.

I can be viewed as stubborn, a little know it all, and over confident in some things in life.  But, I still try to step outside of the box, take a look at my views, and correct them as necessary.  Today, I did a 180, or a 360 if you are a Seinfeld fan.  Driving from the doctor’s office this morning, I had a few minutes listening to Colin Cowherd, and he was all over the place, ranting verbally as I sometimes write.  He changed my opinion on something, and I wanted to share it with you.  I have said several times that I don’t care what sports stars think on social issues.  Well, I need to alter my opinion.  I don’t care if they tell me what we all SHOULD think, but am backing off being angered by them expressing themselves.  Here is the deal.  They are telling us what THEY think when wearing the T-Shirts, not what I should personally think.  Just because they have a platform of 100 million people and I have a platform of 100, I should respect that they worked very hard in their lives to GET that platform.  Wear away, gentlemen and ladies.  I admire that you have built a foundation where expressing your views, right or wrong, gains an audience.

LINE:

12-1, 6/ $155 million

The Cubs entered the offseason at 40-1 odds of winning the World Series.  They now are at 12-1.  Here is what I think about the Jon Lester deal.  One, I am surprised that he didn’t go back to the Red Sox, so the persuasion must have been wicked (accidental Good Will Hunting joke).  Second, I don’t think that giving a 30 year old pitcher with a career 3.58 ERA is a totally smart team trying to do things the “right” way.  Third, I nix all of that by saying that this was a statement to Cubs fans and the MLB in general.  Theo is basically saying “we are doing this, going to win, and see if you can stop us.”  If I am a Cubs fan, I am worried about year 4, 5, and 6, but excited about years 1, 2, and 3.  Bold moves from every angle, Theo.

SINKER:

Skins/ Knicks

The Redskins were caught fighting at practice, and the Knicks are a wreck.  The Skins are too far into the season to make amends on what 2014 will be overall, while the Knicks still have time.  I don’t have time to list all of the problems with the Knicks here, but you have an grossly overpaid PF/C who is lucky is be healthy each day, a gunner from the outside who would score about an 8 on the Wonderlic, a gunner superstar who is threatening people who tell him to rebound and share the ball, no enforcer in the middle because he is back in Dallas, a new coach trying to run his mentor’s triangle scheme as a first time coach, and the Zen Master watching this all happen in front of his eyes.  Both these squads need to go back to the drawing board, or figure out some magical cure quickly.  I would hit Jimbo Fisher up and find out how to make a deal with the devil for wins.  It worked for him.
