Day 1-Initial Thoughts

Well,we now know the teams, who they will be playing, and where they will play.  I will be going much deeper on this by mid week, but here are my initial thoughts.

MIDWEST

-Kentucky will stay within 300 miles of campus for the entire region.  Know this before going crazy with upset picks.

-If I am picking a 12 over a 5, it is in this region.  I am on the Buffalo bandwagon.

-If you want to call it an upset, then ok, but Texas barely got in the Dance, and I think will win at least one game.

-A third round game between Maryland and Kentucky is going to be closer than you think.

-Last year, Wichita State was overrated.  This year, they are underrated.  Give me Kentucky over Wichita State in the Elite Eight.

WEST

-Wherever you want to take them, keep in mind Oklahoma State and UNC have the athletes to play with anyone.

-I may be advancing Ole Miss/BYU into the Sweet 16.

-I think I would have VCU advancing farther if they didn’t get the draw they got.

-Want a tiny stat to impress your friends with?  The leader of Georgia State is no other than Kevin Ware, the ex Louisville player who had that awful on screen injury.

-How adorable that the committee put Wisconsin and Arizona in the same region again.

-I don’t see any major upsets at first glance, meaning my bracket will be full of x’s after two days.

Give me Wisconsin over Arizona in the Elite Eight.

EAST

-I have not trusted them all year long, and I don’t trust them now.  I think EITHER LSU or NC State take down Villanova in the second round.

-How adorable they have a possible UVA-Michigan State second round game.

-I am not joining the Northern Iowa bandwagon because I got on the thing the second week of the season.

-I might have Boise State/ Dayton going into the second round because if it is Dayton, they will play Providence in Columbus, OHIO.

-I am still concerned about UVA getting Justin Anderson getting back into playing shape, but this is an optimal bracket for them.  Give me UVA over Northern Iowa in the Elite Eight.

SOUTH

-I love how FOUR of my bracket sweethearts going into this thing are on the same mini bracket.  Iowa State, Gonzaga, SMU, Davidson.

-Before you have anyone knocking out Duke, remember their first two games are in Charlotte.

-Georgetown can lose to just about anyone.

-This bracket has a ridiculous percentage of the highest scoring teams in the nation in it.

-I would say that Gonzaga might actually advance to where they should this year, but their matchups are not good.

-I still think this is the best Zags roster we have seen.  Give me Gonzaga over Duke in the Elite Eight.

 

Wisconsin over Kentucky in a classic.  Gonzaga over UVA.  Wisconsin over the Zags in the final.

That is my Day 1 thoughts.  They will change most likely a lot this week.
