FILLERBUSTER’S ELEVEN

BACKGROUND:  This started as a long-winded numbered blog.  It transformed into an organized long-winded category blog.  Now, it is a quick-hitter to ease your pain.  I lack time.  So, the preparation of the blog actually made me procrastinate from writing the thing.  Let’s see who makes the cut.  Barely edited as usual unfortunately, so please excuse any mistakes during my stream of consciousness.  I feel the need…the need for speed.  Let’s turn and burn.

SETTING: This is written almost fully on Tuesday night.  I procrastinated too long in starting to write this, got overwhelmed by how much I would have to write during a busy week for me work-wise, so decided to streamline this. Couple thoughts per category only.  Except for the COVID thoughts.  That just kind of happens.  Let’s do this before I start writing down more ideas to write about.  Tailored and released very early on Wednesday morning before work.  I can’t interrupt my anniversary tonight, and might have a poker game tomorrow night virtually.

STREAMS TO FOLLOW IN MY OPINION:

Chris Toler, Motet, Jack Johnson, Widespread Panic, Rob Meagher

  1. EVERGREEN 1:  One World.  The One World concert was worth it, everyone.  Hope you caught all of the big-time musicians performing from their living rooms.  The movie Memory might have sucked, but Jennifer Hudson singing Memory was ridiculous.  I didn’t know who Rita Ora was before, but either her living room sounds like a recording studio, or her voice just simply sounds like a recording studio.  Matthew McConaughey oddly had a very old printer in his room in the background from like the early 2000’s.  Charlie Puth doesn’t make his bed for virtual audiences.  He looked like his mom was going to come in and yell at him.  Ben Platt has decided to say screw the razor during quarantine, even though my wife and her 20 friends all were jonesing to when he came on each time.  Jack Johnson was incredible as usual.  I heard many artists I wasn’t familiar with that were magnificent.  I heard many artists I WAS familiar that were magnificent.  It makes you understand that these people are famous for a reason, and no living room is going to hold down their talent on a virtual call.  Amazing stuff.
  2. EVERGREEN 2:  Starting Five and NFL Draft.  The hot thing seems to be picking your starting five or not picking Michael Jordan right before The Last Dance.  Idiots.  My starting five is Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, and Kareem.  I hear my bench of Oscar Robertson, Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, and Bill Russell (yes, give me the twin towers on my second team) give them hell in practice.  My favorite players of all-time Isiah Thomas and Allen Iverson would only be my third and fourth PG’s).  And I end up dissing Shaq because I also have too many good centers in line.  Sorry.
  3. EVERGREEN 2: COVID.  My weekly random notes from our predicament.  Trump halted WHO funding, and I feel like he has a blame list as long as my blog list to lash out at, and the problem is we give him a chance every day to do it.  He did offer to consult with sports people about sports stuff involved in opening places in our economy, Mark Cuban offered, and I would pay to be a fly on the wall in THAT room.  I enjoyed reading the article on the theory about IF the 49ers had won the Super Bowl, and IF they had a Super Bowl parade, the Cali COVID hit would have been much much worse.  So, we haven’t figured out the source of this thing, whether you can be fully immune to it, and we have no vaccine, but let’s open back up stuff.  If you feel like the United States is NOT handling this thing correctly, we should all move to Germany, New Zealand, or Taiwan, as those places are the rock stars in the last three months apparently.  COVID made a Florida prison release people early, a guy was released, and he killed someone right after he got out.  Lots of flaws in our plans country-wide.  Let’s hope Michael Cohen doesn’t take advantage of his release like this.  Kirk Cousins says that it would be “refreshing” to play without fans, and not sure a guy who hasn’t won anything in life should be trying to preemptively emptying the stadium already.  I read a report that social distancing could go until 2022, and that is not the article I want to read before bed, or before my day begins, or anytime ever.  I was there in Paris before the Notre Dame had its fire, and am sad that COVID is holding up that reconstruction still.  The Cannes Film Festival might move, and no one wants “home movies” to replace the word “festival.”  A 93-year old woman held up a sign with a Coors Light, and not only got a year’s worth of Coors Light delivered, but had her 15 minutes in the same breath.  Indiana Rep Trey Hollingsworth says more lives lost is better than the economy being lost, or something like that, and that is definitely you can think but shouldn’t say, especially when it is being recorded.  Los Angeles is already getting the picture that I think is truth, and falls into line with that article I posted two blogs ago.  Their mayor said 2021 might be when sports comes back, and that might be true, folks.  New York must wear masks now, and I just can’t picture that entire state buying into THAT.  Either Trump read the Constitution, or someone who read it filled him in, as he backed off of his total authority very quickly…glad we have checks and balances considering that guy is in office.  A Germany zoo was debating on feeding its animals to other zoo animals, but luckily I never read anything about the end of this story.  I still enjoy watching all videos of animals taking over towns and parks with no humans, and Yosemite was the last place I saw some animal partying.  St. John the Baptist Parish probably doesn’t get much publicity, and kind of sad that their 15 minutes is having the highest death rate per capita in the country.  Gambling sites are actively taking bets on elections, the NFL Draft picks, and some Call of Duty league that actually exists.  I think my gambling for now will just be picking a date in the future to use all of these flight credits on a very badass trip.  Twenty-two people filed for unemployment last week, and that is 13.5% of our workforce, folks.  That is some scary stuff.  Michigan people protested the stay at home policy, and I made fun of it, until Denver not only protested the same thing, but had health care people “counter-protesting” the protests.  Celebrities can JOKE about being stuck at home, but let’s not “moan” or “complain” about being stuck in a mansion for all of this time.  Sorry you didn’t include a bunker/toilet paper stash in one of your 80 rooms.  Volkswagen is being smart, as they are not only offering new vehicle payment deferment option, but they made a commercial about it to let us know they did it, even if we don’t own a Volkswagen.  We have gotten to the point where you just assume when someone passes away and it is reported, you assume it is probably COVID.  It is SORT of interesting about the pics of Venice, but not sure it was front page CNN material.  College was the best part of my life as a youngster, and I feel bad for college students right now, and it must just SUCK being virtual for everything.  Ivanka Trump drove from DC to Jersey for “essential” business, meaning her personal Passover celebration.  That is rude.  Von Miller got COVID, and I just can’t help thinking he hosted some people or did something else social to deserve contracting it.  Not buying the no-story.  Robert Kelly’s trial is postponed until September, and not sure if anyone even cares if it is because of COVID or not.  Chain emails are back!  In this time of people missing other people, this is the practice of sending a FW:FW:FW:FW:FW: email to ten people and you will get a wish or 10 years of good luck or whatever.  Jazz Fest was canceled, and that is sad to me as it is one of my favorite festivals to attend here and there over there years, but MORE sad because there are a TON of people who spent a lot of money to finally see The Who, Dead & Company, Stevie Nicks, and the Foo Fighters.  Adopting dogs is in with staying at home.  A Florida kennel emptied ALL dogs for the first time ever.  I read about a $700 a meal restaurant feeding the homeless and it was a feel good story.  Buzz cuts are making a comeback, and even though I used to be the king of having a buzzcut, I am holding out and just continuing to grow it.  An Idaho farm had to give away 2 million potatoes before they went bad.  The Chippendales have gone virtual and that is scary.  I had to order my dad’s card from Amazon Prime, get it delivered to my house, then send it out from my mailbox, and this stay at home thing really elongates the whole process of simple things.  Jacksonville opened its beaches, and people were there in force about 30 minutes after the announcement.  Idaho, Montana, and other states with no stay at home orders are suddenly getting a small spike.  Go figure.  An Ohio racetrack owner said he is opening his place soon, and NOT asking.  I can’t imagine having kids running around for this whole time.  I have a hard enough time dealing with my cats.   Speeding tickets are on the rise, since no one is on the roads.  A firefighter got a receipt out of an ATM that his balance, after stimulus check, was $8.2 million.  Wuhan revised their death toll and that sounds about right.  Police found 17 BODIES in nursing home after a tip from someone.  I can’t imagine the people who prepared for a spring wedding.  So sad, and can’t imagine canceling the ceremony, the bachelorette/ bachelor parties, and figuring out gifts.  The Denver howl has gotten a little weak, and I would love to say that I haven’t contributed to that lacking power.  Busch though is giving a year of free beer for all of these people and their friends if they post the appropriate hashtag online.  Why does Trump like so much in putting exclamation marks on his tweets?  Taylor Swift cancelled her 2020 shows, and that has to be a sign.   Grocery stores are debating having customers not come into the store, and I already am on that bandwagon.  I actually don’t like going anywhere at all right now.  A pastor actually decided to ask his congregation to give their stimulus checks to the church.  A Michigan inmate spent 44 years in prison, was going to be released in a couple of weeks, and just died from COVID.  People in Bangladesh decided to protest in a way when 100,000 people showed up for a funeral.  Icing people with Smirnoff Ice is making a comeback.  You just run up to the door, leave the bottle, ring the doorbell, and go back to social distancing.  The small business loans aren’t working out as well as planned, as big companies like Shake Shack had to GIVE their checks back.  Entire families who didn’t understand TikTok now are embracing and posting.  New York somehow is squeezing a “best NY accent” contest in during all of this.  Want to have a COVID laugh?  Bubba has your back.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG3erL7m_ZI&feature=emb_logo  Even the Louisville Slugger plant has now shut its doors.  Sad.  The state whose governor was the last person in America to understand that non-symptomatic people could spread the virus now is the first to open up his state.  Sounds flawless.  The World Series of Poker is now cancelled, and, again, this fall will be PACKED should we come out of this by then.  Denver is starting a “Safer At Home” policy starting April 27th, and I still think I will mostly be hiding at home still until this whole thing pans out.  Polis speaks fluid Spanish.  I was impressed.  Trump is nixing immigration, but we know that was in his hopeful plans anyway. The US oil prices are below zero, but that doesn’t mean the gas pump will pay YOU for getting gas for the car you don’t drive. A Lisbon, Iowa woman is sewing masks and hanging them by the hundreds on a tree outside.  Love these stories.  A hiker is stuck on an island somewhere near Scotland because his three-year, 8700 mile HIKE ended in March of this year, right when you couldn’t enter back into his country.  He lives in a tent with a dog he found with supplies locals sent over.  Octoberfest in Denver is cancelled, so that is not a good sign of things to come…or football.  I rarely say a point blank statement, but I am truly tired of politics coming into play with COVID.  Let the differences go to beat this.
  4. NFL: Gronk/Brady.  Gronk goes to the Bucs, and this whole story seems surreal.  If you don’t think Brady doesn’t have power, here you go.  His OLD team, who doesn’t want him to succeed HAD to bow down to Gronk with either a money play or a motivation play by the WWE kid to push him to Tampa for a FOURTH round pick.  All about math and supply and demand.  Gronk would be owed $10 mil if the Pats kept him.  I think Caesars will be adjusting their 9 win total to 10 or 11, even with Gronk’s slight injury problems.  I don’t think that Gronk replaces OJ Howard.  I think that he replaces the other kid and they have OJ Howard and Gronk lined up on both sides of the line frequently.  Plus, let’s not forget that Gronk is not a bad blocker.  By the way, Brady was discovered in a public park in Tampa that was closed to COVID.  This is a media stunt if you ask me.  There is NO way that Jeter’s mansion (that Brady is renting out) does NOT have a workout room.  Like a FULL workout setup.  Or a field to do the same exercises in as a park.  Tom WANTED to be found so we can discuss his extreme work ethic one more time.  Smart.  Day before the Gronk thing.  Finally, I found this an interesting read.  One interesting thing about 50 of the kids about to be drafted.  Since the draft is the only thing we have that is real these days in sports, you might as well know who does the Rubik’s Cube in a minute, or whose dad was the frontman for Code III.  https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2020/story/_/id/29057981/inside-2020-nfl-draft-class-50-facts-know  I might be a fan of whichever team selects Isaiah Simmons in the NFL Draft.  I think that kid is going to be a wrecking ball at multiple positions.
  5. COLLEGE BASKETBALL Jalen Green.  Jalen Green is the #1 recruit in 2020.  He will NOT go to college, meaning hoops junkies are robbed of another college talent.  Except, Jalen is going the G-League and not across seas.  They will figure out a way to pay him more, although the pay is about $125,000 in that league.  So, he will be a better draw for that team, and schools need to figure out a way.  Pay these kids something.  We have gone from pro league of some sort to now G-League, and more loopholes will be found.  He won’t be the last, especially if this experiment works out.  My buddy sent me an interesting article about where recruits come from.  https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-sports-eaab1b2b-b108-4172-9108-3ac997ad01b7.html?chunk=0&utm_term=emshare#story0
  6. NBA: The Last Dance, HORSE.  I talked about MJ before in my blog.  I will take the short route this time, but I enjoyed the first two episodes.  So, will anyone who didn’t get to experience his rise to fame in real-time.  They do a nice job of showing experts new details behind the scenes, while recapping highlights most of us know for the newbies.  Some stuff a little overdone, some stuff surprising, some stuff rehash, some new.  Good stuff.  I couldn’t help to notice that the only NBA player in the HORSE competition with an INDOOR court at home (which they should all have per two blogs ago)…won.  Congrats for being ahead of the curve, Mike Conley.  While everyone else was shooting in outside elements, you had shorts on in your private gym.  During my lunch break and being able to watch sports shows at home, I heard of this.  The GM for the Warriors attempted, in 2011, to trade BOTH Klay Thompson AND Steph Curry for Chris Paul.  Sure, hypothetical trades are all over the place, but that one is crazier than some.
  7. MLB Derek Jeter.  He just simply continues to be a better dude than all of us.  He has offered to forego his $5 million salary because of the COVID virus.  Noble.  I hope that Tom Brady knows he will be pushing for rent next month.  Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly broke a window at home practicing a changeup and it is worth Googling.  I can’t provide everything for you in this thing.  Plus, I am streamlining this one.  Forgive me.  There are actually people out there LIKE this????  https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2020/04/15/jackie-robinson-day-jeopardy-flub
  8. MISCELLANEOUS: Emoni Bates.  Just a reminder to write the name down somewhere, as he might be the next coming.  He is the first sophomore to win the Gatorade POY in high school.  Watch out, folks.  In the WNBA, the NY Liberty traded Tina Charles for three picks, and gave them FIVE of the top 15 picks, including the first one.  Imagine an NBA team getting that.  Insane.  Finally, Joe Burrow says he could score double digits in an NBA game, and I say WHOA there, fellow.  Easy, Joe.  Get drafted and do something, and THEN maybe light the fire.  Let’s not insult that league until you throw your first touchdown pass.
  9. THIS AND THAT:  I feel like my wife and I watched Family Guy all the time during downtime, and have been doing so for like a decade, and we still see one we haven’t seen way too much.  Are they making more than one per week?  The 80’s glam rock guy is going to be eliminated from The Voice and that makes me sad, but considering we haven’t figured out HOW they do the lives, I guess we have time.  He went with One Republic and should have just done Whitesnake or Queensryche. The younger generation would have been staring at the screen blankly, but it would have had him go out in glory.   I am one episode from the end of Season 1 of The Wire.  It is pretty good.  I am still waiting for “the hook” (Hustle and Flow reference), and it is not a letdown, but I need to network on HOW this is the greatest show of all time.  Not buying it yet.  Unless the last episode is off the hook, or the second season just takes off, I am not hooked on the plot, the characters, or actors.  Of ALL the people to not investigate future high school teasings and wordplay for a child, I would expect Amy Schumer to do that.  She changed the middle name.  It was going to be Gene Attel.  Ha.  Dogs expertly playing Jenga will make you smile. https://www.facebook.com/100028316993794/posts/463792277908001/?   A cat jumping a dog like a RB over a LB is better. https://www.facebook.com/100012373837779/posts/900328913722895/?  I am caught up on Westworld, and might be giving up soon.  It is Inception wrapped in Déjà vu.  Brian Dennehy died this week (NOT COVID), and I wonder if him and Rambo ever figured things out.  A star was “dancing” around a black hole, and experts said that this means that Einstein was right.  I didn’t know we were doubting him on being right on stuff.  Lindsey went to bed and I watched Airplane, the original movie.  It is STILL totally funny beyond all belief.  Roger, roger.  What’s your vector, Victor?  There is a Drunk History that is all about sports that aired on Tuesday, and my wife smartly taped it.  Yay.  Sounds like something that would be perfect after a virtual happy our with friends.  Finally, let’s say a word about Columbine.  People in Denver in 1999 KNOW exactly where they were…like 9/11 when it happened.  So sad.  I lived across the street at Westlake Greens on Crestline.  Thoughts and prayers to the families of that debacle.  I forgot it happened on 4/20, which I find weird in this town.  Happy and sad the same day.
  10. THE FILLERBUSTER:  Not complaining about anything, as there is much more difficult situations out there, but I can still say the words.  I was supposed to fly back from Virginia and DC last night, and then I was supposed to go to this resort on Thursday for Presents Club.  https://www.leblancsparesorts.com/en  I continue my daily lessons in Spanish, and I am slowly coming along.  Slacking on the guitar a little.  On my calendar for this week after my big work demo on Thursday, when I have more time to focus.  I am so bored that even I have submitted to putting posts on my Facebook page (all about what streams are cool now).  We once again have failed to ever have gone to Telluride (only Colorado town neither of us have been), as that festival is now cancelled this year.  Our non-refundable Canadian concert with Vance Joy and Jack Johnson I assume will be next on the cancellation list.  I have overcome my laziness sometimes during this quarantine by guaranteeing I will clean one thing per day, to some degree.  It has been working well, whether it is an entire yard, or one shelf in a closet.  I just bought replacement boat shoes, and I wear size 14 but refuse to go to special places to order.  I picked out about 52 boat shoes before I finally found a 14 in wide.  I don’t pick my fashion.  It picks me.  We are close to getting a dog on a trial.  It will be a Golden Retriever.  If a girl, it will be Buttercup.  If a guy, it will be some Steeler I win an argument on.  I like Lambert as it is a little different.  But still brainstorming on the male.  How did I never put together that because I hate running, but love Forrest Gump, that I could probably add Running On Empty to the list of Rocky songs that someone keep me going doing what I hate but what is needed right now?  Finally, THANK you, Earth Day, as when you approach, I will never have to worry about missing my wedding anniversary.  My wife is the love of my life.  And we are at four years into our forever.  Yes, yes , yes, I LOVE the Ratt commercial for Geico and am glad whenever it comes on.  Might be the last day for my crappy beard.  Got a work call tomorrow to clean up for.  I will miss the lazy quarantine look, and my wife definitely won’t.
  11. TWEET OF THE WEEK

That’s it for today.  Hope you enjoyed or are at least more informed.  Remember two things.  First, feed yourself, feed your family, but always, always remember to…feed the wolf.  Second,  if you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.  Will I blog again?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.  As one shepherd said to the other shepherd, let’s get the flock out of here.
