Welcome back to another fun filled addition with Ben. Not to worry, I won’t bore you with countless tails of my Cleveland pride this time around. I’ll save those tales for the upcoming Browns season when I need to turn my attention away from the screen on Sundays. I mean I have to give you something to keep you coming back, right? Lord knows it’s not Mark’s keen insight into sports…
So what to chat about today you ask? Well, being that this is a sports blog (in between Mark’s ‘Bourne’ shout-outs), let’s dive into a segment I like to call ‘random thoughts’.
- Who decides who gets to vote for major sports awards like Heisman, MVP, etc.? I mean does it rotate? Is there a discussion before those votes are handed out? I feel I should be involved in this process to some extent. This system seems flawed to me…
- Why is the MLB still trying to fight technology? People who make the argument ‘human error is part of the game’ sound like the old man sitting on his front porch telling the young ‘whippersnappers’ how bad they used to have it back in their day… Video replay is definitive. Figure out how to use it properly.
- Can you imagine how much money MJ would make today in endorsements? I mean he broke the mold during his prime, but contracts are so much BIGGER today. On a serious note, I’m glad he’s getting his voice out there on controversial topics. He is one person everybody will stop and listen to…
- Anyone know the over/under for the Browns/Patriots game this season? Tom Brady and Josh Gordon both come back from 4 game suspensions that game. If I were smart, I would lay some serious money down. But instead I’ll just talk about it now and regret it later…
- How is pro wrestling more popular today than when I was young? You really have to give to Vince McMahon some credit. That guy is Warren Buffet smart when it comes to Marketing his brand and capturing a new generation. I’m not an avid fan. However, I did go to college with someone that’s getting pretty big right now. Dirk Ziggler – look him up.
- Who do you think is the greatest 1-1 player (non-center) of all time? While most novice basketball fans would throw the standard answers in the mix (MJ, LeBron, Kobe, Magic, Bird, etc.) everyone forgets about Allen Iverson. His quickness puts him in the 1-1 conversion for sure…
- So not a big NASCAR fan. Just never got into it as a kid (much like hockey). However, I have some good friends that swear a live race is one of the best parties I’ll ever go to. I plan to prove them right at some point.
- When thinking about how good Tiger Woods was for his 10 year run, it’s amazing to step back and realize how good Jack Nicklaus was for his entire career. Not only the most majors, but 19 second place finishes (in Majors alone). Pretty amazing feat…not to mention an Ohio guy…
- After going with Mark to Vegas for his bachelor party this year for March Madness opening weekend, I have to say, I want to go again…
- Speaking of football season, I can’t wait to watch the overrated Wolverines fall flat and my Buckeyes surprise yet again. I’m not saying Michigan won’t be good (another 10-3 season probably), but the media is hyping the Harbaugh train 1 season too soon. Whereas, the Buckeyes are fielding their best overall team (talent wise) since Urban Myer landed in Columbus. It’s hard to believe that considering how many people we just sent to the pros, but go look at their overall recruiting numbers. Their average player is a ‘solid’ 4 star recruit – which has been going up every season he’s been there… O-H (I’ll let all you Buckeyes fans out there complete this for me)
