Catch Of The Day

Here I Go Again

HERE I GO AGAIN

By The Fillerbuster

The Cast 031119

SETTING:

TIME: Sunday evening, 5:30pm-7pm, Monday mild editing, some small additions, and cleanup.

MOOD: I think I was rather jovial both days

BACKGROUND: Watching episode #1, #2, #3, Season 7 of GOT on Sunday, letting Lindsey’s friend watch the big Bachelor show on Monday.

THEME:  It looks like either Kiss or Here I Go Again will sneak in because of certain references.  Creed 2, True Detective, and White Boy Rick will probably come up short.

I feel the need…the need for speed.

Let’s turn and burn.

EVERGREEN (topics that don’t fade away):

MARCH MADNESS IS HERE

There is no guaranteed and successful plan on picking a bracket, and that is why there are so many jokes about it, but below are some things I have learned over the years (and still hasn’t helped me much).  It is nice to have a plan.  More to come, but just getting excited.  Oh, and by the way, you should watch some of these smaller conference championship games.  That IS their year.  Now that UMBC has given everyone hope at the expense of my Cavaliers last year, they might even win a game or two.  These teams pretty much HAVE to win their title game.  And it is exciting as heck.  And, know that when an upset does occur in the conference tourneys, it usually means someone else is getting squeezed out who was on the bubble from power conferences.

  • Look at earlier publications, rankings, and lists.  Some teams might have underachieved for the entire year, but being good on paper still counts for something.  You need to win six straight games, and luck will only take care of 3 or 4 of them.  There is a reason why there are preseason rankings, and this is a good time to go and see who made it to the final rankings from those preseason ones.
  • Free throw shooting:  At some point, a team will be in a close game.  Chances are this will happen.  Or, the team might need to guard a lead.  In either case, I am looking at teams who have shot free throws well all year.  They will need them at some point.
  • Coaching:  Big names are big names for a reason.  Look at schools with old school coaching cast-offs.  That guy is usually good for 1-2 wins where talent is lacking.
  • Guard play:  I believe a team can still make a deep run with or without monsters in the middle.  I do NOT think a team can make a deep run without great guards.  Whether it be outside shooting needed, or simply to break the press of a team with that style, you need ball handlers and shooters.
  • Cute stories:  They happen, and have happened here and there.  But finding the obvious ones PRE-TOURNAMENT is beyond difficult and shouldn’t be something you get sad about after missing.  More frequently, less sexy teams from power conferences who barely got in the tourney will make a run.

THE ARIZONA CARDINALS PLAN

It is one thing to look horrible but people know you have a plan.  It is another thing to look horrible and look like there is no plan at all.  The Cardinals look like that right now.  They fire a coach one-year in.  That is NOT enough time to institute a strategy.  They are now trying to trade a first round QB after ONE year.  That is insane.  Either you have no idea what you are doing, or there is another back story on Rosen.  The amount of research that goes into ANY first-round pick is thorough.  Bottom line is this.  The Astros had the patient plan.  The Sixers had The Process.  What does Arizona have?  I am not sure.  You are not sure.  But, whether it is something that will work or not, I would be curious to know what the overall idea is.  I am definitely asking some tough questions if in that fan base.  And, I don’t want the answer to ONLY be Kyler Murray.  He can be PART of it though.

MARIJUANA

If it helped performance, I would say no.  If it wasn’t legalized in over half the states, I would say no.  If it didn’t help with pain recovery in painful sports, I would say no.  But, the previous statements are not true about marijuana, which means the professional and college sports leagues need to follow suit.  Perhaps you need a lot of parameters and specifications and I do agree it is a slippery slope, but let’s try and learn from mistakes as we go and EVOLVE.  Legalize marijuana for sports.  We have to evolve in our regulation, and if “regular” laws are allowing it, then sports need to also.  Being behind the times is one thing.  Let’s not let these quitters and suspensions cost us some great sports records.

MARK GOTTFRIED

Not sure what the exact cliché is (and NOT looking it up and I admit I am really, really bad at clichés), but sometimes a duck is simply a duck.  If it quacks like one, walks like one, and looks like one, it probably IS one.  When an extremely high-profile player goes to a lesser tier school and it looks a little bit odd, then if it is not family history, friends, geography, or other, payments might be involved.  A couple of years ago, Dennis Smith committed to NC State.  It has now been released that Smith was paid, and coach Mark Gottfried was involved or at least knowledgeable.  Gottfried is now at Cal State Northridge.   Shame.  I try to bypass my conspiracy theories and believe that the kid really wants to go there.  Or that the coach really made a great case.  Then, like now, either rumors or facts kill my buzz.  But, when a school suddenly steals a top-flight recruit, you have to wonder.  In this case, the whole situation was the duck.

SENIOR NIGHT

Over the last week, I read about seniors trying harder for their night.  What is this?  Trying harder will overcome what they have done all year?  On non-senior nights, did they pack it in every night?  Were they saving extra energy and skills to play extra well on this night?  I don’t understand the rationale.  Maybe you can say it for the guys who do NOT typically start, but let’s leave the guys who start out of this.  Most athletes are trying their best every single minute of the game, every night out.  That is similar to when my boss tells us to close some end of month deals in an email.  Were we not trying to sell our product the other days?  Was this go ahead email the key to our success?  Were we saving up our sales just in case there was an odd push at the end of the month?  Is our entire life about starting at zero annually and monthly, and then doing it all over again?  Everyone is doing everything they can, and let’s stop with the extra motivational tactics in most cases when talking about game finalities.  I am pretty sure BOTH sides really want to win that night.

WEEK-FISH (current topics of interest in sports):

NFL

  • I might be an island, but the marriage between the Jaguars and Foles is perfect.  One guy needs a team that can defend.  The team needs a game manager and any type of magic or great stories behind that team manager.
  • I am glad I am not at the NFL combine.  If someone asked me if I had both testicles, I think I might have to bring them out.  That would slow down the odd questions.  Let’s all just be glad I wasn’t a promising NFL football player.
  • The trade is complete between the Raiders and Steelers.  Antonio Brown will be shipped out to Oakland.  I still am not totally sure why the Steelers were so worried about a $2 million hit, and therefore rushed this process.  I don’t think a 3rd and 5th is near enough, but get they just wanted to be done with this thing.  So, overall, the Steelers got three mid-round draft picks for arguably the two best players at their position.  That is scary and sad.
  • I hear the Raiders might have a shot at Bell to.  I would like that.  Not only would this put both of my personal hated people on the same team, requiring less distribution, but in Vegas too?  Sounds like a logical destruction.  I just want them both to excel statistically with NO taste ever again of the playoffs.  A little legal trouble would be the icing on the cake.
  • Did anyone else read that the Raiders were the prime suspects for Brown and then read 10 minutes after that it was the Bills?  I am not sure when that shift happened.  I definitely missed something.  Or, I was too angry to care.
  • Quietly, and not on everyone’s radar, Dwayne Haskins threw exactly like he should and will be the best pocket passer in years out of the draft.  Yes, Stephen A.  POCKET passer.
  • The Bears have plenty of time, and whatever spin they want to put on their new kicker’s name, it better be good, with the amount of options out there.  Blewit.  Just amazingly perfect.  I guess at least they are getting a guy with a chip on his shoulder.  You can’t tell me HE didn’t have good material and comebacks every time he walked into an interview.
  • The Broncos have traded Case Keenum to the Redskins.  Not sure which team is acting more desperate, but it will be fun watching each team.  The Skins evidently weren’t buying that Case looked like a journeyman backup QB and want to give him a shot.  They will probably not be floored when he ends up as a journeyman QB in skill level.  The Broncos are sticking with their guy who has had one single fantastic postseason, and many ordinary seasons after that run.  Case’s stats weren’t THAT bad, I don’t think, but it is a gamble for either team.  At least ONE of the teams already has their average starter on the bench.
  • I love the Broncos for thinking outside the box, but I personally don’t need to entertain any new options for the onsite kick.  I surely don’t want to cut out that part of the game, when one of my biggest curiosities in sports is that more kickers can’t do one successfully.
  • I love when it is obvious some team’s scraps are another’s treasures.  Eric Weddle was released by the Ravens last week.  Lucky guy is Eric Weddle.  He leaves a cold place to go to warmth, and he leaves a playoff contender to go to a Super Bowl contender.  The Rams continue to just add the proper pieces while they wait for Tom Brady to retire.
  • You can argue about overpaying.  You can argue about personnel.  The one thing you CAN’T argue against is that the Lions are BUSY.  They have picked up Amendola, Flowers, and Coleman just since Sunday morning.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Well, after his performance, Montez Sweat is either going to be a heck of an NFL player, or a great, great trivia question someday.
  • I don’t question (much) the decision of Bob Stoops to, for some reason, want to coach an XFL team.  What DOES confuse me is why I hear him talking about another step AFTER the XFL coaching stop.  Why?  You were already at one of the college football pinnacles.  Why wouldn’t you just have stayed there IF you wanted more?
  • I love transparency and honesty.  The guy who poisoned all of the Auburn trees was recently asked why he did it.  He said, “I don’t like Auburn.”  He is definitely just getting to the point.
  • I wonder about this Will Wade item.  They will find out what they need on this one, but should we just ASSUME that Ben Simmons was also paid for oddly choosing that school as his one-year destination (not on Wade’s watch, but still deserves a discussion)?  Lots of ducks today.
  • I think I might have 2-3 other things on my list, but DEFINITELY in the mix for my favorite things of the week is that Vince Young got fired from his part-time job for being late, non-productive, and just…Vince Young.  The guy can’t even hold a favor job at his Alma Mater.
  • RJ Proctor is an offensive lineman that is leaving my school and going to Lindsey’s school.  That is not right.  When we GET a recruit that is deserving of a top tier football school, we don’t need one of those teams raiding our cupboard late in his college career.  Kind of backwards if you ask me.  Now, we have a legit QB, and we lose a key guy to protect him.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

  • Jay Huff is the most pleasant surprise of UVA’s season.  7’1”, and can shoot a three like Klay Thompson.  He needs to beef up before next year to be a real force, but his minutes are going up for some good reasons.
  • OK.  No one can really shoot a three like Klay, but I had to reference someone.
  • If you didn’t see the second half of the UVA-Cuse game, then you missed what the beauty of hoops is.  It shouldn’t happen like that, and it doesn’t very often, and I honestly don’t want it TOO much, but when three’s are going in like that, it is somewhat beautiful to watch.
  • The fact that Michigan State might get back Nick Ward for the Big Ten tournament is HUGE.  It still won’t overcome the loss of Langford, but it helps.
  • TCU is falling off the map.
  • Vick isn’t coming back for KU. Talk about your optimum suggestion for a first or second round upset.
  • Texas Tech is now the Final Four contender they looked like on paper at the beginning of the year.
  • When I watched the Duke-UNC game, I heard the phrase “their bench is thin.”  How?  I get that Zion is the best player in the college universe, but HOW do the rest of the McDonald’s All-Americans just suck?  How does Duke or UNC have no bench?  That is impossible and funny to me.
  • Wake Forest even scared the crap out of Duke this week.  Wake.  Process that.
  • Want parity?  OU destroyed 14 year running KU, and then got SMOKED by Kansas State.
  • And then UK struggled against a not very good Mississippi State program.
  • Iowa State, which I finally believed in mentally, but not financially, just got blasted by an offensively challenged WVU team, and then by a surging Texas Tech team.
  • I watched the entire Marquette-Seton Hall game.  Aside from the fact that the fall of Marquette is one of the most puzzling things in sports right now, they allowed Seton Hall (which, by the way completed their bubble run by beating Nova on Saturday) to go on a 27-5 run, highlighted by an 18-0 run to end the game.
  • Watch film on Amir Hinton.  There is a reason why he might be the first DII player drafted since 2005.
  • When you talk about marriage, I think I have realized that you need to A) pick your battles and B) realize that missing Duke-UNC is fine when you are setting yourself up for the entire month of March.  I admittedly was out and about during that game.  Just heard the bench comment before heading out.
  • Yes, I took off of work the first two days of March Madness, and not sure why I haven’t been doing this the entire time.  Whether it is on my couch, or with friends at Stoney’s, I don’t want to time a long lunch during the possible good games.  I am just buying into the whole lot this time again.
  • I really thought that Michigan was not only going to cover the four point spread, but WIN the game.  Michigan’s record is still pretty amazing this year, but some of the games they haven’t shown up for are just ODD.
  • I will never complain about a push, but dammit, Davidson.  You were up five with like 10 seconds left and a four-point spread.
  • I like watching teams like FSU and UCF.  They have some of those classic big men I miss some days.
  • Just when we thought we had it all figured out, Auburn beats Tennessee.
  • Just when we thought we had it all figured out, Clemson beats out Cuse’s zone.

NBA

  • Kareem raised a LOT of money for those kids.  Very noble.
  • Trae Young got ejected for effectively staring at an opponent’s jersey.  Take out the blatant trash talking when a player crosses the line.  Don’t take out the gray area incidents.  He should have been left alone on that stare.
  • I love the fact that Melo still doesn’t have a job.
  • I think it is incredible that the Warriors are bringing back old guy, Andrew Bogut.  If you are going to be slower with Cousins already, you might as well back him up with a slower guy.  And, after dropping a home game against the Suns WITH a Durant injury, they are setting the table for a year in the playoffs where IF they pull it off once again, we won’t doubt them again in any way during the regular season.
  • I think Andrew Wiggins is regressing and might end up as one of the biggest draft busts…like ever.
  • Think about it.  We are going to have the playoffs without LeBron.  I will ballpark that it was 2005 since that has happened.  What were you doing in 2005?  His run of playoffs AND NBA Finals appearances is pretty stellar outside of the Celtics run way back when.  That is like comparing Harden’s scoring streak to Wilt’s.  Apples and oranges.
  • When the Suns beat the Bucks, they did two things.  They were the A) first team to beat the Bucks twice this season and B) the first experience that the Bucks had with losing two games in a row.  It was a bright day for the Suns, but also demonstrated how consistent the Bucks have been all season.
  • I believe that one of the coolest stories this week was Wade trading jerseys with Kevin Hueter, who he found out idolized him growing up as a hoops player.
  • Again.  A jersey swap.  Don’t laugh at soccer, NBA players.  You are replicating them in a way.
  • And I hope you don’t get sad after the jersey swap.  Adam Silver says you all are sad, so just making sure you stay jovial.  Tough lives you all lead.
  • Again, when the Warriors lose, they lose IN STYLE.  The Celtics beat the crap out of them at HOME.  By the way, the Celtics have a ridiculous 80% winning percentage when Kyrie is NOT playing.
  • I am not an airline pilot.  But, IF I was an airline pilot, and IF there was a delay on the runway, I would also order pizza like a pilot did this week.
  • My wife’s stomach doesn’t like moving ships.  Can you imagine how her stomach would react if the wind blew the top of the ship over like it did on a Norwegian ship the other day?
  • The problem about LeBron passing MJ on the scoring list is two-fold.  A) He said this was more meaningful than the amount of titles.  No.  B) It gave him a microphone to give us a daily update.  How could we live without that?
  • I am not a Celtics fan.  I am a hoops fan.  I think we all hope that Gordon Hayward ends up as the Gordon Hayward the Celtics thought they were getting.
  • Yeah.  LeBron is going on a minutes deduction.  Yeah. That will happen.
  • Want to have a comeback tour?  Think Klay Thompson.  Back on the court and fluidly hit NINE three’s.
  • We all thought that the Lakers season couldn’t get worse.  Insult to injury.  They can’t even figure out how good Ingram can be as he is out for the rest of the season.  Ball too, but that is good because we get less LaVar.

MLB

  • I have a hard time thinking that Bryce Harper will live down his wrong city reference anytime in the next thirteen years.
  • I sincerely hope that the rest of the nation isn’t subjected to constant Bryce Harper updates for spring training games.  The fact that he walked twice was in the top three on the wire was overkill.
  • Tampering with Harper?  MLB.  You are funny.  I am sure this is tampering as much as NBA stars sharing constant texts every single day.  Allow Harper to shout out whoever when on the mic in his first few days with his new team.
  • Whenever you are worried about Bryce Harper not being cocky, think about dinner conversation about him telling people he outdid LeBron’s jersey selling record for the first 48 hours.
  • I can’t believe that Dallas Keuchel still doesn’t have a job.  Amazing that a guy who gives the Cy Young award a run most years can’t even find a gig because of the new complexities with less starting pitching.  Wow.

NHL

  • The Avs lost a pretty good player in Landeskog.  Hurry back.
  • Nothing else really in my NHL news this time around.  I care about NHL AFTER march Madness and The Masters.  Because, playoff hockey games are simply the best.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • I don’t care if you are black or white, girl or guy, etc.  Getting 30 and 30 in a game is ridiculous.  Congrats, Kristine Anigwe.  That is a sick stat line no matter how you slice it.
  • I feel like there is some type of Champions League of Football going on all year, and I don’t think it ever stops.  I will stick to just caring about Euro and WC.  Otherwise, I think I would overload.  I have to pick my sports love battles also.
  • I think we are ALL pretty unsure whether the AAF is actually occurring right now.  From what I hear, the Sky Judge is something that should be brought into the NFL.  From what I know, I agree.  I probably will not be tuning into a game to see this Sky Judge thing though.
  • Talk about some sensitive dogs.  The lead racer in the Iditarod was up by FIVE hours.  He came to the same point in the race where he got lost last year and came in second.  Two dogs started fighting.  He yelled at one of the dogs.  The other ones apparently decided that this was rude, so they just quit on him.  Dogs don’t have shirt collars, but you wish you could grab a hold of them somehow and say “SORRY about raising my voice, but let’s finish this thing we just trained ALL year for and then my apology will be better.”

THIS AND THAT (pop culture, Fillerbuster thoughts):

  • I admit to not understanding the joke of Arby’s, when they say they have meat “for sandwiches.”  Why the add on line?  Did some group protest the we have the meat line?  Confused.
  • Tell me you weren’t pumped as hell when you watched the new Game Of Thrones trailer.
  • I am pretty sure they won’t sell out, but always good to get the tickets in hand sooner rather than later in most cases.  Going to Kiss.  I joked with the younger guy going with me, that I attended the last stand, farewell, this is it tour in about 1996 or 1997, but definitely don’t mind getting possibly pump faked one more time.  Kiss was a part of my childhood.  I had the toys, the dolls, the ornaments, the instruments, etc. of Kiss.  My brother and I teamed up to own everything.  I look forward to hearing them one more time on the stage.  Yes we have decided to paint our faces.
  • A Baltimore woman was killed in her car for giving money to a panhandler, and that makes me sad.  Baltimore is one weird town though.
  • Although it was interesting reading about the five and eight-year olds who survived the wilderness, I had a feeling of jealousy.  I think I could have done that and would have wanted a shot at it.  It would have been nice to have that story in your holster when someone questioned your creativity or toughness.
  • I think it is depressing when I wake up at 430am and head to the gym to swim and sometimes get blocked by a train on the fastest route.
  • Luke Perry died.  I think that you have to be in the 40-50 year old age group, but 90210 was very important in our lives.  Seriously.  It was.  With all of my heart, I wanted 90210 to be the blog theme before writing this, before the Here I Go Again solution became evident.  Even though he will always be Dylan and Dylan only for most of us, the show is still fun to reference and he will be missed.
  • I have never been to Hawaii.  Southwest has offered $49 flights to Hawaii.  I think I need to find some time and go to Hawaii, since this might be a REAL $49, and not a pay for your seat, your carry-on, and your backpack $49 like what Frontier does.
  • In today’s reason to be jealous about another person’s situation, a SC resident last week opted for a $877 million payout on a $1.5 billion prize.
  • Don’t chuck those extra sauces, people.  A man in Oregon survived for 5 days on Taco Bell sauce alone.  And his dog.
  • You are not doing well on the healthy front when the BARTENDER makes a joke about the healthiness of your meal.  Lindsey and I went out for dinner Tuesday at Billy’s Inn.  The final decision of wings, deviled eggs, and queso prompted the jokes.
  • Of course, just to up this ante, on Friday night I had deviled eggs from not one but TWO consecutive places.  The second place also had a happy hour special, and said theirs were better.  I bit.  I am not hard to talk into eating deviled eggs.  Pretty sure if I entered a food eating contest, it would be for deviled eggs.  I might be past that prime age of eating though now.
  • For the record the first place was better.  So, Brazen beat Midwestern Saloon on 32nd.  The Brazen deviled eggs were some of the best I have ever had.  Good price for them on happy hour, so you know.
  • We won’t be having kids, so the fact that Lindsey’s friend is staying with us with her baby is about as close as I am getting.
  • I am pretty sure that if you are making something healthy and want to override the bad taste, you just put peanut butter in it and it will hide most bad tastes.
  • I estimate that Erik (the guy I sit next to at work) and I make about 20-25 Seinfeld references on an average day.
  • Can we have another Super Bowl in the coming weeks so that Bud Light has to come up with a different commercial than the corn syrup one?  Way over that one.
  • I had lunch with my mentor from back in the day last week.  He doesn’t even know anything about any of my deals I am working, and I still got all pumped up after chatting with him.  Not much of a process guy, but the guy on the phone was unstoppable.
  • I had a debate with my co-worker, Anthony (also know as the pop-culture king or lifeguard or whatever else we think of that signifies he knows all when dealing with movies and shows), about the Geico commercial where the guy uses Here I Go Again lyrics for his wedding vows.  Listen, I consider myself the President of the Here I Go Again Fan Club.  My love and history with that song goes deep.  When we talk about how many times I have listened to it, we are talking much more than thousands.  I have done it karaoke, played it as a band, and embraced every part of that song.  I remind people that not only was there two versions of the song in the late 80’s, but that there was a more organ-guitar one in the early 80’s.  I bought those old tapes with my allowance money and from mowing lawns.  So, the commercial is confusing.  Anthony says that the guy’s love for the song is SO deep that he doesn’t care that the song is talking about going on your own, and being by yourself.  THAT, he says, is where the commercial is funny.  I say that the true lovers of the song would acknowledge the lyrics’ nature, and therefore NOT ever use it for his vows.  Anthony says his love of song overrides, and I say the very fact that the dude would use it in those circumstances insults the SONG more than it insults his BRIDE to be.  Don’t let the worlds collide.  Let the song be your motorcycle ride song, bro.  Sure, I mentioned Dokken in my vows in passing, but Here I Go Again is its own thing.
  • Whitesnake was technically a blues-rock band that was smart and just got rid of the blues bass lines, changed the organ to a glammy synthesizer sound, and totally sold out in the smartest way at the optimum time.  And, that song paid for their bills for the duration of their lives.  I had a Jordache jean jacket with rock band pins.
  • Alex Trebek has pancreatic cancer, but will work through his condition and finish his three year contract.  Alex, come on, man.  It I true that you have built a separate society of watchers, where it must continue and you can’t be replaced without a negative effect.  But, you have had a heck of a run.  Go be with your family and focus on fighting this thing.  Whether you came back in years, or just dropped the mic and moved on, your run is unprecedented and demands respect whether before or at end of contract.  Go get better.
  • The Blockbuster in Bend, OR has progressed recently from being the last one in America to now last one on the PLANET.  It would be cool to go visit the last store left.  My question is this though.  If they hope people visit the store and invest and they make some money, wouldn’t they still have to return the movie a day or two later, so doesn’t that kind of create a bad business model?  They would need tourists who oddly want to rent movie in beautiful Oregon with breweries around them, and then return the DVD.  There are some kinks to work out.
  • I know it is because he is the “President,” but a dying man’s wish was really to talk to Trump, and Trump actually did call him?  Donald Trump did a good thing?
  • This was nice, but of course balanced by the news that Trump was at a Super Bowl party and had a picture taken of him and someone else.  It was the owner of the Asian spa Kraft got busted at.  SO perfect.
  • Kind of nice that I am a beads guy, and I head to a tribal trade show in a couple of weeks, where there will be beads galore.  And, it is in San Diego, meaning I will have time during the show to get tribal beads, and then the evening to buy beach beads.
  • I really do miss the old Sporting News magazine with team by team updates in every sport.
  • Now Thursdays will be a better day of the week now that we are into March Madness soon, but still the only day where Seinfeld is played for two hours straight right after my work hours.  Great day.
  • Avalanches are occurring off the main highway in CO.  That is a negative effect of LOTS of snow up in the mountains, but let’s just say the skiers are pretty happy these days.
  • Check this out.  A black man had a gun pulled ON HIM last week while picking up trash on a lot.  It was HIS house.  Sounds like either stereotypes are driving some people and/or they aren’t asking the right questions.  Very sad.
  • A study came out that said 21% of fish is mislabeled.  That is like 1 out of 5.  I know you can find a study for pretty much anything you want to prove, but you are telling me that 1 out of 5 pieces of fish might not even be that type of fish?
  • I hear there are strides occurring by Netflix to make sure there is a movie event or series about that soccer team that got stuck in the caves.  We didn’t see this one coming at ALL.
  • I came into work last Friday, and my co-worker had an unfinished BBQ chicken pizza from the previous day.  He came into work that morning and tossed it.  I explained that this was extreme pain to me.  There isn’t much that gets me sadder than WASTED PIZZA.   The chicken with the day in the middle means I won’t test my stomach’s fortitude, but we are now clear that leftover pizza has rules now.  I am allowed to raid his pizza boxes after 3pm each day.
  • Ten Things is one of my favorite reads of the week.  You have also been told by me that my buddy in Santa Barbara was the most highly skilled, short slow white guy I have ever played with.  #6 on this link was one of his main three moves.  http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26173297/10-things-like-including-chris-paul-swagger
  • On our list, but very close by.  We just noticed that Flyte Brewery just opened by our house.  There is a large piece of airplane fuselage IN the place.  Looks fun.
  • White Boy Rick was a decent movie.  Nothing to write home about or be pissed about it not winning awards, but watchable and enjoyable.  Put it on your list.  Don’t rush to that section of the list, but just make sure it is on there.
  • I may or may not have rented Creed 2 just to see the training montage for the first time since seeing it in the theater.  It is pretty awesome.
  • I finished up True Detective last week.  You can definitely say without hesitation that it blew away Season 2.  It gave a mild run at Season 1 in its approach, but kind of tough to match that particular lightning in a bottle.  But, decent effort.  Without giving away any spoilers, I will just say this about the finale.  For such a thoughtful show up to that point, it left a good amount of unknowns in the air, even while seeming to take its time early on in the series.  Here is the deal.  It is nice to have a lot happen in the finale, but sometimes you realize that you were simply taking too long in the episodes preceding it.  I think I would have really enjoyed the show on all levels had they spaced everything out a little more and moved more quickly early on.  But, they left too much work to do, and too many stories to resolve.  It felt rushed.
  • Lindsey’s birthday brunch was at the Brown Palace on Sunday. It apparently is the Denver version of the Sterling Brunch at Bally’s in Vegas.  Anyway, go and do it, still a good value, but I will still pay an additional $20 for the Sterling one in the end.
  • I really don’t know why it took me so long to get into Chick Fil-A.  One of the puzzles I can never back up on, and can only catch up the best I can.
  • Chick Fil-A had motion trash cans.  I think technology is great, but I really wonder who out in the masses had the huge problem with just pushing a door a few inches forward.
  • We had a birthday get together at Ashley Union Station on Saturday.  The party had a pool table, so I was beyond occupied all night long, but I was more blown away by how what was a field like 4 years ago is suddenly a metropolis in the vicinity of 19th and Chestnut.
  • All pool games had an asterisk.  I was playing with good players with bad sticks on a table where everything leaned to one rail.  It was fun though.
  • Citizen Rail might be my new Marlowe’s (closed down).  Citizen Rail is nice and uppity looking, but has a killer happy hour for both food and drink, and delicious looking food.  I look forward to heading back for our Passbook visit.
  • I am not a wine guy, but Lindsey had a rose that I actually would not be against drinking it for pleasure (I typically hate wine).  Cote Mas Rose.  Under the umbrella of wine that I mostly do not like, there is that new treasure.
  • Tupelo Honey was delicious, as we used that for our Passbook on Saturday.  I will say that although I wouldn’t say it was the greatest fried chicken ever, it was very good, I would eat it again, and the portions of their entrees are some of the largest I have gotten in a while.  If you want mind blowing chicken, that is up for debate.  If you want large portions with great chicken, then this is your place.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Tho’ I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I’m looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
‘Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams

Whitesnake

Out on the street for a living
Picture’s only begun
Got you under their thumb
Hit it

THIS WEEK’S LIST:

I took a few moments and listed out my favorite Kiss songs:

Black Diamond
C’mon and Love me
I Was Made For Loving You
Parasite
Detroit Rock City
Love Gun
Heaven’s On Fire
100,000 Years
Reason To Live
Beth
Rock and Roll All Night

These are not the best glam rock bands, but rather the ones who I liked the most or affected me the most:

Whitesnake
Winger
Bon Jovi
Dokken
Motley Crue
Def Leppard
Poison
Warrant
Great White
Ratt
Europe
White Lion
Extreme
Cinderella

Bands not included in rankings on purpose as they were not JUST glam. Kiss, Van Halen, GNR, Queensryche

THE RIDDLE:

Hard one this week. Name the #1 song in my opinion of glam rock where the band was none of the above, never had a #1 hit, and totally was off the radar. And the second part of the two parter is who do I ALWAYS say is the most underrated guitarist of the glam rock era?

$20 Venmo if you get both. Highly unlikely.

CLOSING:

That’s it for today.  Hope you enjoyed or are at least more informed.  Remember two things.  First, feed yourself, feed your family, but always, always remember to…feed the wolf.  Second,  if you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.  Will I blog again?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.

PICS:

This is on the menu at Brazen. I don’t see enough of these offers. Yes, I bought them two beers.
