FILLERBUSTER’S ELEVEN

BACKGROUND:  This started as a long-winded numbered blog.  It transformed into an organized long-winded category blog.  Now, it is a quick-hitter to ease your pain.  I lack time.  So, the preparation of the blog actually made me procrastinate from writing the thing.  Let’s see who makes the cut.  Barely edited as usual unfortunately, so please excuse any mistakes during my stream of consciousness.  I feel the need…the need for speed.  Let’s turn and burn.

SETTING: This is written for the most part on Wednesday night while my watch watches her shows.  Finished up, tailored, and released on Thursday morning before work time.  I am continuing the ONE single topic for each of the sports until we get to This And That.  I listened to all Charlie Daniels songs while writing this.

  1. EVERGREEN:  CHARLIE DANIELS.  We lost a legend this past week.  Charlie Daniels died at the age of 83.  He was a game changer for me as a kid.  My parents got me into them, and I remember having a few 45’s from the band.  I was all over the board as far as music, and it provided a nice reminder for my later years that having a nice touch of country music in the arsenal is never a bad idea.  I even saw him live once when I moved out to Denver.  The Devil Went Down to Georgia will always be the signature song from him.  And it should be.  But, let’s not forget about some other classics that you should check out, and, as I always do in life, I will provide you with MY list of his best songs.  #5.  Long Haired Country Boy.   This is a old school favorite for a lot of people, and it also is probably his best early song (1974).  Ranked, but I didn’t hit the timeline where this would be my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs4y5si8DGs  #4.  Sweet Louisiana.  Because I am a jam band guy, and this is the crossover song by Charlie from country to southern jam band, this comes in high in the rankings.  I hear a little Allman Brothers in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJIFkxJLBjM  #3.  Uneasy Rider.  The top three are all very good narratives, and I can still sing this song pretty flawlessly to this day.  This was the B-Side of the Devil 45 if I recall even though the song was done earlier. The lyrics are hilarious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=952h-AJ3Bcg  #2.  The Devil Went Down to Georgia.  We all know this one.  My favorite personal story with this song was when I won a lip sync contest in college.  I did a two part-er, did this as my opener with full Air Fiddle, and then said to the Virginia crowd that there was only one cowboy I knew of being from New Jersey, and then did Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi.  I even beat the basketball team’s girlfriends, and the basketball team was the judges.  You don’t need a link for this one.  You know it.  #1.  The Legend of Wooley Swamp.  This has two types of story telling, and it is catchy, clever, and brilliantly done on a lyrical and musical level.  For people who are non-fans, you might have missed this one.  My favorite Charlie Daniels song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMz4MA2X-98  We will miss you, Charlie, but thanks for the great tunes to remember you with.
  2. EVERGREEN 2:  MAYA MOORE.    We talk about Michael Jordan walking away from basketball in his prime to pursue baseball, and the fact that he came back to become the greatest of all time is a pretty amazing story.  But, what if I told you a similar story, but the walk-away passion from the great athlete wasn’t a different sport, was something that moved you, and was something bigger than sports.  Then, I would be telling you about the Maya Moore story.  She met Jonathan Irons when he was an inmate and she was a 16-year old at a prison ministry.  Between then and a year or two ago, all she did was go undefeated for two years and win two titles at UCONN, be All-Academic for two years, make four All-American teams, win two Wooden Awards, win four WNBA titles, get six All-Star nods, win three ASG MVP’s,  win two EuroLeague titles, win two World Championships, win two Olympics,  lead the WNBA in scoring, lead the WNBA in steals, win an MVP…I am tired…ALL before the age of 31.  Then, what does she do?  She leaves basketball fully to focus on getting Jonathan Irons, that man from her prison ministry, released.  She is arguably the greatest winner in any sport in that timeframe, men’s or women’s, and she left the game of basketball to help a prisoner that she believed was innocent.  It would be an unbelievable story just in itself.  But, what happened this past week?  Maya Moore proved that she is not just at winning in basketball.  She wins at life.  Jonathan Irons officially walked outside of the prison, and she was waiting for him.  Maya, what a life you have lived thus far, and way to make us re-think about what is really important in life.
  3. NFL:  MAHOMES.  Patrick Mahomes locked himself up with the Chiefs with a 10-year extension this past weekend.  You could argue this both ways, and I see both points.  He is definitely not a bust, but it is football, with injuries, so you could say that getting that monster $500 plus million locked in benefits him.  I mean, over in baseball, Albert Pujols is enjoying getting paid on that ridiculously long-term deal without doing extraordinary things anymore.  But this is football.  And, there are typically too many outs with any long-term deal from a team, and this one has a few of them.  Plus, things CHANGE.  We don’t know if the whole monetary system will be different in 5 years, so will his deal age with the times?  Here is the deal.  I read quite a bit on this out of curiosity.  The bottom line is that he WON’T play out his new contract most likely.  If you just want to UNDERSTAND the deal, read this article. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29419411/is-patrick-mahomes-500-million-contract-actually-team-friendly-answering-eight-questions-chiefs-qb-deal  If you want to know why this might not be as player friendly as it looks, read THIS article. https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/07/07/business-of-football-patrick-mahomes-contract  And here is a link to a general mailbag if you just miss football talk in general like I do.  https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/07/01/nfl-mailbag-jimmy-garoppolo-tua-patriots
  4. COLLEGE FOOTBALL: CALEB WILLIAMS.  We could talk about Bama keeping their two five-star streak alive or UNC’s suddenly magical recruiting pitch, but I want to talk about Caleb Williams.  Very quietly between the COVID and BLM and upcoming sports bubbles headlines, OU landed a great recruit.  You might not know Caleb Williams, but football insiders do.  Monster pickup for the 2021 class, folks.  He is the highest committed recruit from that class left to commit (#15 overall), and the #1 dual threat QB in the class.  What is interesting is that he is only one spot behind the top pocket passer overall.  So, if you are tired of the assembly line of QB’s heading through Norman, and are choosing not to watch their new hype video proclaiming them as QB U, you should probably follow another sport.  Lincoln Riley has not only done it again, but Caleb is probably a good reason for him to stick around another few years.  Williams came out of the DC area, which makes it logical that I am mad as a UVA alum that he went West, and logical also that OU beat out local schools such as Maryland along with the biggies like LSU.  Great pickup, Sooners.
  5. COLLEGE BASKETBALL:  PITINO.  Rick Pitino has not done a lot of brilliant things in the last few years.  In fact, you could say he has performed on the total OTHER side of that coin.  But, the coach of Iona (you are like…THAT is where he ended up???) said something very sensible last week, and it should be listened to.  He wants the college basketball season to start in January.  I TOTALLY agree with this.  The preseason tourneys are fun and resume building for many teams.  But, they aren’t “needed,” and we, as a society, need to think about what is really needed in getting past COVID.  Juggernauts meeting early in Hawaii, on aircraft carriers, and in preseason NIT’s is fun, but not a necessity.  We need sports, but let’s not rush anything we don’t need to.  Football is going to have its own problems.  Basketball doesn’t need to have the same ones.  Kill the early season tourneys in October and November, kill the other games teams play before and after the exam break, and let’s just start with conference games in January.  Will it change the dynamics as far as who gets in?  Yes.  Will the bubble be totally different?  Yes.  Will the smaller schools HAVE to win their tourney?  Yes.  Will tougher conferences suddenly regret not giving their teams the opening runway?  Yes.  But, will we get enough separation to fill a bracket?  Yes.  There is no need to play earlier.  THIS sport has the luxury of starting after Christmas, and maybe we will have some more normalcy, and can enjoy our college hoops in a more normal way.
  6. NBA: THE OTHER RING.  The Wizards just lost two main players and have no shot, Zion is going to wreck people, more players test positive, more players opt out, Marv Albert won’t be part of it, the bubble costs $150 million, but what do you want to really hear about?  The ring.  Not the title ring.  That OTHER ring.  Here you go.  Tell your friends.  https://www.si.com/nba/2020/07/01/oura-ring-nba-restart-orlando-coronavirus
  7. NHL:  HUBS.  I don’t fully understand COVID, bubbles, or hubs (no one does on all three technically), but I definitely don’t get why you would have TWO of them.  The NHL is about to officially announce the hubs will be in Edmonton and Toronto, but how does that work?  Isn’t that doubling the chances of this not working?  Isn’t there a way to just do one hub?  I still believe their system will be the most thought out, but I am not impressed with the opening information.  I was sort of rooting for Denver, but then reminded myself that A) I can’t go to anything and B) I probably WANT the bubble(s) far away.  Glad we almost have hockey, especially playoff hockey (which is the hardest team sport trophy to win in my opinion anyway), but I hope the details get better and more comforting.
  8. MLBSPITTING AND THE BUBBLE.  There are two rules I am curious about thus far in this about to begin season for MLB.  One, no spitting?  It makes sense, but HOW do you stop players from doing something that I believe goes back to the 1800’s.  Is spitting sunflower seeds the same as spitting chew?  THAT should be fun to enforce.  And they won’t be able to release the NAMES of positive tests?  So, in a time where full transparency is a must, in experimenting with a no-fan atmosphere already, you can’t tell us WHO is positive?  And that is from a “real” level.  What about betting?  So, does this mean you can’t tell me the name of a guy, I lay a bet on a playoff game, and suddenly that pitcher isn’t out there?  That sounds horrible.  Lots of fun sorting through these various rules…
  9. MISCELLANEOUS: COLLEGE SPORTS.  We are entering a sad state for college athletics.  Today, the Ivy League announced they will not participate in sports until 2021.  If you recall, they were the first league to pull the trigger on canceling their tournament, and then a couple other conferences said no fans, then cancellations, then Rudy Gobert and the rest of the dominoes fell quickly after that.  And that is the big sports we are talking about, and not even getting into the economic effects on the universities.  But, there is a worse side to this.  Colleges will start cancelling the smaller varsity sports.  Stanford just announced today they are cancelling ELEVEN sports starting next season.  Can you imagine being one of those athletes?  Can you imagine being an Olympic hopeful and attending one of those schools?  Can you imagine being a smaller sport athlete at any OTHER school right now and waiting for impending doom?  COVID was most prominent as we were stuck in our homes for the last three months, but even without a second wave, the aftershocks will unfortunately continue through the rest of 2020.  That is so sad.  I bet you need something uplifting to end this segment on.  I do.  Well, it is actually sad for me, as GNR lost to ACDC in the final game of the sports anthems bracket on Deadspin.  Here you go.  https://deadspin.com/and-now-the-winner-of-deadspin-s-inaugural-arena-anthe-1844232749
  10. THIS AND THAT:  The MTV Video Music Awards will go on as planned in NYC, so they can be just like videos these days…where I am not sure they exist.  Putin is trying to get some amendments to help him run two more times, and that sounds like something Trump would do.  I think Trump should stop getting Neil Young angry and should back off playing Rockin’ In The Free World.  My buddy was telling me how he went for a ride to yell at some youngsters blowing up fireworks and making a racket, and we joked about how we have suddenly become the “get off my lawn old guys.”  I went into a field outside of a small mountain town over the weekend, but still didn’t see any lunar eclipse.  Just a full moon.  We have an appearance of bubonic plague, COVID, mutations of COVID, locusts, BLM, bomb cyclones, cyclones, typhoons, earthquakes, murder hornets, and now Kanye West and Paris Hilton are running for President.  The world is ending, folks.  Beechers Mac and Cheese is the best in the land, but I will say that the Gluten Free style is below the original’s par.  Ask the stockboy to double check for you in the back.  What is the show called Penn & Teller?  We just discovered it.  Being two people who LOVE magic, and now there is a show with magic and two magicians have to tell them if they figured out their trick in code language without giving up the secret?  Awesome.  Sold and I will be seeking out that show.  I have no idea why a Robot Chicken skit with Harrison Ford and Aerosmith playing the role of Bruce Willis in Armageddon made me laugh, but it did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI86p6YogIg  I get wiping out some statues and movies and songs and some Disney themes that are breaking the rules of BLM, but I am hearing rumors about knocking down some stuff in museums, and books.  Let’s keep some historical memories in the right places.  Where is the end of the slippery slope?  I am FULLY supportive of the movement totally, but if we don’t remember where we came from, then how will we know how far we have come at the end?  Wipe out the history that exalts the horrible past.  Don’t wipe out the part that simply teaches people about it.  People in Alabama were having parties where people got people if they actually GOT COVID.  Wow.  Continue with the Bama jokes, please.  And we are trying to go to weddings and events like everyone else in the coming months, but a groom last week died two days after his OWN wedding, and infected 80 people as the kicker.  Watch yourselves.  Cheetos Popcorn is delicious, tastes like Cheetos, and leaves your hands just as messy as Cheetos.  I think, after my road trip, that Gatorade should combine Unsweetened Iced Tea and Fruit Punch.  Interesting mix that I liked when I was compressing containers for car space.  I bartended for 14 years, and when stopping by a lunch place on the way to Telluride, I watched a bartender wash hands, and sanitize everything before…getting me a simple Iced Tea refill.  It took like 4 minutes.  Just for a refill.  Can’t imagine bartending having to do that.  I had a beer called Tempter in Telluride, a local brew, and on my GOOD list for IPA’s.  Shut the Box continues to be the favorite game of Linds and I, and we pushed it on three other people this weekend, and now they are hooked on it.  Finally, there is a porn site called ImLive that apparently hired an announcer, after being turned down by Joe Buck, to provide sexual play by play for blind people.

(travel notes are below for Telluride)

Side note:  My new rankings for my favorite mountain towns are, in order:  Aspen, Telluride, Crested Butte, Steamboat Springs, Breckenridge, Winter Park, Estes Park.  Telluride crashes the top 2.

And our weekly reminder of the greatest sequel ever made coming out this winter… Top Gun 2.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epgkqPJ_bc0

That’s it for today.  Hope you enjoyed or are at least more informed.  Remember two things.  First, feed yourself, feed your family, but always, always remember to…feed the wolf.  Second,  if you can’t spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.  Will I blog again?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.  As one shepherd said to the other shepherd, let’s get the flock out of here.

My Telluride 2020 Notes:

These are weird notes, because typically we do the MOST amount of stuff, but COVID had many, many things closed…except for the outside stuff.  I usually have reviews on bars, restaurants, clubs, etc.  Not this time.  This goes into my travel journal, so is written as is for reminders when I am 80.  I took about 400 pictures, and shoot me an email if you want to check them out.

  • The place is so far away that if you don’t leave at 5am, you lose a day.  We left at 5am, as aspirations of hot springs filled our head.
  • Plus, as we learned, you can’t THINK about flying there, as if you don’t have an owned 4-wheel drive vehicle, you are wasting your time there.
  • 285 is such a magical Colorado road.  I always forget about the massive mountain curves at the beginning (and end coming back), and the two beautiful straightaways on either side of Fairplay.
  • I need a storage bin for the top of my 4Runner to have more space on road trips.
  • Need a 530am quick breakfast to hit the road with?  I suggest the incredible breakfast burritos at Abide Ride, which parks in a lot in Conifer and opens at 6-ish.
  • I will skip to Gunnison notes, since that is the farthest west in that corner of Colorado I have been.  Suddenly, things got exciting, and yes, I constantly take pictures at cool mountains while driving.
  • Curecanti National park Area is AMAZING To drive by.  Make sure you dodge the road work on the two lane road, but stop and take some pictures.  I had no idea of the size of the Blue Mesa, to be honest.
  • The mountains getting close to Ouray are amazing.
  • We got a crappy sandwich in Ouray as we were in a rush to get in line for the hot springs, got there at about 1140am, and STILL weren’t in time.  At 1230, when they start letting in non-members, it was already maxed out.
  • SO….we went to Option B.  Orvis Hot Springs.  Why was it Option B in the first place?  Well, it was “clothing optional.”  And people weren’t shy about it, and most were NOT something to look at.  But, the hot springs were beautiful, we lowered our eyes, and it was a nice experience overall.
  • We needed some lunch.  We chose Eatery 66, and it is a good call.  We barely made it before they closed midafternoon oddly, but the pork BLT and truffle parmesan cheese fries were perfect for the rest of the drive for me.
  • The drive IN to Telluride is beautiful.  Have camera ready, and it is a great tease to what you will be staying in between.
  • I highly recommend Lulu City Unit 5D if you stay in Telluride.  Pretty affordable for the town if you have people with you to chip in.  Had lots of room for five of us.  Latitude 38 rents it out, and is hard to get on the phone live, but they call you back quickly.  Million dollar condo we were staying in.  Outside of town, but there is a quick river walk that gets you into town quickly.
  • Their pool wasn’t kept up that well post-COVID, but we were fine without it.
  • Not much was open due to COVID.
  • Liberty was a place with a sign that said “Bucket of White Claw,” and I was with three chicks, so we stopped there.  We wanted a patio spot, away from people around us, and that is what we got.
  • Get the Tempter IPA if in Telluride.
  • Note that the river doesn’t have bars really.  Mainly condos.  We walked down to explore, but came back to Liberty and got our original spot.
  • John and I had some beers, and talked about business ideas.  Tell Your Ride, Tell Your Lie, Tell Your Friend, That You Cried.
  • Floridora looked like a bar we would like to go to, but they were takeout only.
  • They had a live artist playing in the street, but they ended pretty early.
  • Two of the hotels have rooftop areas.  We wanted to do that.  But, with everything at lower capacity, the reservations were packed.  Plan ahead and do that.
  • We had dinner reservations at Alpinest the Goat.  Great, great fondue.  They had a blue cheese one.  One important note!  We went there to get a “deal.”  We ended up spending the most money all weekend at one time, because each bowl has TWO fondue portions in them apparently.  We had three bowls.  Not good.  The place plays John Denver on repeat oddly.  Servers had no idea why.
  • Back home to party and play our new favorite game, Shut the Box.
  • Wake up pretty early to get started.  Quick home breakfast.
  • You ride through Telluride and basically drive until you run into the mountain.  Then, it is switchback time.  We saw plenty of people walking up, but if you want the extra walk, do the TRAIL, and not the mountain road.  Otherwise, you just have cars driving past you.
  • My 4Runner aced the switchbacks WITHOUT even needing to kick it into true 4 wheel drive.  Plenty of people were getting stuck though.
  • Bridal Veil Waterfall is totally worth going up to.  You can get pretty close at the bottom of it, or go at eye level to it, which we did.  We went up one more level to the mill for our hike the next day.
  • The COOLEST thing about this day was two dudes who asked to ride “along” with us.  They literally held on to my vehicle on either side, while I 4 wheeled crazy.  Totally cool.
  • Got my new FB photo up at the waterfall.
  • We talked to some folks up there who were “just going rock climbing.”  Scary walls all around.
  • I initially thought the Via was rock climbing, but apparently it involves a cable also to some degree.  I will do that next time up in the town.
  • We walked around looking for brunch places.  Not much that we found.  There are no fast food places also in Telluride.
  • Before the rain came (comes a lot up there apparently), we found a place called Butcher and Baker.  It sucked.  Cocky guy was rude to my wife taking a table, I had to make my own bagel and lox, they wouldn’t serve me an egg burger 5 minutes before lunch, order took forever, etc.  Wouldn’t recommend.
  • Clark’s is the grocery store, and they have a monopoly.  Our crew spent $200 just for our two days there.  Stop on the way UP, folks.
  • I went back to the Goat to ask for printed version of bill.  That is where I got the double fondue truth.
  • The dude who owns the Goat also has a gallery and the Goat is just his side project apparently.
  • Some took naps.
  • Didn’t feel like the Fourth of July.  So odd.  We bought some $5 poppers to put off.  That was it.
  • People wear masks, but I still feel like everyone gets in your personal space.
  • John needed lager.  We made a river walk trip.  You get sad passing by some of the badass houses on the river.  TRUE money.
  • We did the Gondola ride that evening.  TOTALLY worth it.  The views from Mountain Village and the other stop on the trip were mind blowing.  LOTS of photos.  Man had a heart attack in one of the cars.  Delayed getting back down.  Man was OK we think.
  • We got back to town, but just went back to condo.  Not much open, and big hike tomorrow (Sunday).  The plan is to do Blue Lake AND Alta Lake.  For Blue Lake, you park at the mill past Bridal Veil waterfall, and then do a 2.6 mile hike to and from Blue Lake.  Sounds short?  Sure, folks.  We are talking CO hiking.  No joke.  Think it took us about 4 hours back and forth.
  • Breakfast at the condo.  Make your own.
  • Switchbacks.
  • Jeep waves.  Well, from my 4Runner.  But, I think they call them “Jeep Waves.”
  • We walked past the mill and tackled the hike.  It was the most open, beautiful hike I have ever done I think.  Wide path, but waterfalls and trees for first part, and then portrait views for the remainder.
  • I was doing this all on a sprained MCL, by the way.  Slow going, and not used to being the slow one.
  • (I am writing this on a MORE hurt knee because I did that hike lol)
  • Our friend, Heather, is like a professional hiker.  True Mountain Woman.
  • I love doing a Colorado hike and turning a corner and seeing snow.
  • John cracked me up at this point by jumping on a barn thing and saying “what’s the deal with hiking?”  He is also a Seinfeld fan.
  • Hiking ONLY on snow is tough.  Had a stretch of that near the top.
  • Then, you see the lake, and the entire hike is WORTH it.
  • Then, you realize it is cold as shit at the top of mountains and snow is there for a reason, so eventually after your pictures, you want to get down to warmth.
  • My selfie’s were incredible up there.
  • John took a picture of Linds and I but forgot to get the mountain in the picture lol.
  • Going DOWN on a sprained MCL is almost harder than going up.  Well, kind of.
  • I love hiking and then coaching and telling mountain jokes who are dying on the way up close.
  • I ended up using a hiking pole that Heather gave me, and think I will buy one.
  • I like to be fit, but there are these psychotic people in Colorado who BIKE up this 20-40% switchback rocky trail.  Nuts.  So impressed.  And horrified.
  • Then, there are the running people.  They are the same people who go to the Springs and do the incline in full stride.
  • I also love seeing the people who aren’t prepared for a true Colorado hike.  They have the wrong shoes, no backpack, wrong gear, etc.  We met some UVA people who we then saw coming down very quickly after turning around too.
  • Done hike, and was good on switchbacks on way down.  I don’t WANT to be good though.
  • We drive by the close together multi-million dollar homes again.
  • I just kept saying “I need a fountain drink iced tea.”  Over and over.  I got one.  And some ancient pizza at Clark’s.
  • Twenty minute power nap.
  • The drive to Alta, I was told, had no 4-wheeling.  It had MORE.  I got tricked.  More narrow road too.
  • More Jeep waves right and left.
  • People actually LIVE up here.  I cou
  • But, we made it up.  Easy to find parking, pretty spacious.  We parked in between the two large lakes.
  • Driving through water is cool.
  • We had a paddle board and kayak.  Lindsey rocks on her paddle board, Heather rocks on her kayak, Caitlin stood up on her first time on a paddle board, and John was like a professional kayaker.
  • Heather and Lindsey jumped in the lake, and there is nothing like swimming in a mountain lake.
  • I had to pass on all of this and just hang out.  Knee was in extreme pain.  Couldn’t risk stepping on a slippery rock.
  • I would definitely come back and camp here.  It is a lake on a mountain!  Can’t beat that.  It was BEAUTIFUL.
  • Drive down was fine except for some jackass not following the 4 wheeling rules and taking a corner too fast.  But, we were coming down when it was too late for people just to be getting to a lake.
  • I seem to like opening ALL windows when 4 wheeling, sun roof included.
  • We were out of White Claw, so we overpaid at the monopoly liquor store.  Bring more stuff when you come to Telluride.
  • Again, I think people are kind of rude in Telluride.  Aspen is cocky, but people are nicer.  There might be more things to do here though.
  • We attempted to do hot tub, but it looked…shady.
  • Best shower ever followed that though, as our two adventures had us feeling very…needing a shower.
  • The sunset was sick over that field I hung out in the other night.
  • Home dinner or pork and corn.
  • Another quick store trip.
  • We were exhausted, so just did another house party.  Shut the Box, Cards Against Humanity.
  • Filtering cards in Cards Against Humanity is actually a good idea.  Getting rid of Aaron Burr and Emma Watson makes it more fun.
  • Bed.
  • Home breakfast, and have to check out by 10.
  • We pack the car, which is covered with dust because I insist on everything being open.
  • We leave.
  • We hit up Black Canyon South Rim on way back.  I highly recommend this detour.  Takes about 45 minutes total.  Kind of like a smaller Grand Canyon.
  • Little traffic, which you risk on two way highways.
  • Big secret.  When going through Gunnison, stop by Powerstop.  It is simply a gas station looking building with convenience store.  It is known for burgers, and they are INCREDIBLE.  They get them from a nearby farm.  Best stop ever.  They won best burger in town since like 2010.
  • Car stalled coming down the mountain, but we recovered.  I am writing it off as either bad driving by me or a glitch.
  • I did my drop in of House of Rock for my favorite cookie on Earth, but I seemed to have caught an overcooked batch.  Shame.  Not like I can just swing by tomorrow for a new batch.
  • Made it home, unpacked, incredible trip.
